God commands that we love our neighbor as ourselves. So, when Jesus is confronted by a lawyer who wants to know the definition of a "neighbor", He tells a story of a man on a road who receives mercy from an unlikely source. The characters in the story challenge our culturally acceptable views of "neighbor" and mercy, leaving us with a theological definition that informs how we can be a neighbor to others.
