What is the Gospel?

Have you ever asked yourself “What is wrong with the world?”, “What is it with people?”, or perhaps “What is wrong with me!?”  Well, the answer the Bible gives to us is that the world and the people in the world (you and me) have been broken by sin:  our desire to rule our own lives without any regard for our Creator.

It would be bad enough if this sin only existed outside of us, but a quick evaluation of our hearts and motives reveals this sin resides in us – in fact, it affects every corner of our being in one way or another.  The result of sin is tragedy, sorrow, and death, which are all symptoms of the real result of sin – a broken relationship with the One for whom we were made.

The Gospel is literally the "good news" of our Creator, God – Jesus Christ - entering into brokenness to be broken Himself that we might be healed.  This healing begins to occur in us and continues to grow in us when we receive (and therefore live) in a restored relationship with God through faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus.  The Gospel, or Good News, is that our sin is not greater than God’s love, and death is not greater than God’s power.
